Ang Nagligad (The Past)

A true-to-life story...

Breaking-up is considered as the most excruciating part of a relationship where both of you need to go on separate ways. It’s inevitable scenario that caused a lot of us suffering from a traumatic ache in our hearts. There were sleepless nights, oblivion of missing daily routines, losing an enthusiasm, and all you wanted to do is weeping alone – expressing such tremendous pain caused by love.
But in this busy world full of different emotions, I met two brave and diverse personalities withstanding all uncertainties and trials in their lives.
They shared to me scenarios that changed their lives. I sat with *Eljay in a bench one gloomy afternoon while we arranged a meeting with *Grace in her shop.

Memories in the Past

Love, they say, affects us in ways we could never envisage. It is a knot that binds us together unconsciously and an inspiration.
At times, love forces us to do things which are not bound to happen. However, love reaches beyond what the mind sometimes cannot comprehend where the heart can only understand.
Eljay had a strong personality in comes with the word ‘love’ and he never put in his mind the phrase ‘I give up’.
“After we had ‘cool-off’ our relationship I decided to have reconciliation. I was a bit tipsy that time and all I wanted is to see her.”, he whispered.
“So I went in front of their house and I tinted on the road the phrase “IM SORRY LYN” that everyone in her place noticed the couch.” Eljay won’t let the day end without putting more efforts just to save their relationship.
The next scenario would be one of the cherished moments Grace had in her life, reminiscing the scene, dreaming one day that there will be an engaging comeback.
“I was surprise when I saw Mark inside of our school. That time he was a freshman college student and I was about to graduate in high school”, she uttered.
“My classmates teased me when they saw him giving me a red rose. He told me how he escaped from his class just to greet me. It was our 4th monthsary.” Grace added.

An Emo

Being an ‘emo’ is a choice not want. It’s one way of letting the world know how throbbing it was your ‘experiences’. Experiences that make you grew up despite all recurring memories that caused you to be reborn – once again.
Eljay started dating when he was 14. He was accelerated for two years and graduated earlier. Among his 17 girlfriends, his relationship with Celine was the longest which lasted for six months. He likes her for a lot of reasons and there was never once a dull moment other than quality time together especially when she makes him laugh.

A Rebel

She used to have thick red nails, and colored her bangs blonde that made her look like a rebel. Black and red are her signature colors. The undeniable fact about her is that she’s a straightforward person with a rebellious sentiment for her ex-boyfriend. Grace chooses to be like anyone else in a closet of a ‘rebel’ so that the humankind will know how strong she is facing all failures in her life.
Talking about early age, Grace also experienced dating during her senior year in high school. She met Mark on a Sunday Mass. At first, they became text mates and later on, the relationship developed into something they didn’t expect. It was her longest love affair which lasted for five months. Among her seven boyfriends, she valued Mark the most.

The Break-up

Eljay broke-up with Celine because of her family. Her parents don’t like him being an emo and his vices. He was badly hurt. It was like as if pricking him a thousand needles. Six months is not enough for him to convalesce from the break-up but he had no choice but to move on.
Being a vocalist in a band is his outlet of expressing the pain and his studies inspired him to let go of the things which caused him so much pain.
Grace explained to me the word ‘rebound’ in a relationship. She described it being a mere fling, a game with no commitment. She had done that many times, she is trying to get a serious relationship but she end up comparing them with her ex-boyfriend.
After all, they remained strong even those reminiscences they had before won’t come back anymore but still breathing their lives to the best way they can. Yes, break-ups are inevitable. But it’s not the end of the world. Individual’s experiences are only trials and part of our never-ending cycle of life in which we could make use of them to withstand such problem later on with our future partners…

From all faces of life… we suffer from various odds and changes along the way.
How you look to changes and odds is our choice, let us not only wait for some life changing event before we realize that we are already bless in our own special way. Think of it.

(This is actually my unpublished mag article 2009 hope you like it and may touch your heart reminiscing your past... Special thanks to my interviewees for sharing their true to life experiences...)
